Iraq Cancels Boeing 787 Order as July Deliveries Decline

Boeing has confirmed the cancellation of one 787 Dreamliner order from the Republic of Iraq, reducing their future commitment to seven units. Such backlog adjustments are common in the aviation industry due to varying customer circumstances.

In July 2025, Boeing recorded 31 gross orders — 30 for the 737 MAX and one for the 787 — bringing year-to-date net orders to 739 and raising the total backlog to 5,968 aircraft.

Deliveries in July fell to 48 aircraft, down from 60 in June but five more than July 2024, marking the best July delivery figure in eight years. Deliveries included 37 737 MAX, one 767 freighter, two 777 freighters, and eight 787s. In 2025 so far, Boeing delivered 328 aircraft, trailing Airbus’s 373 deliveries.

CEO Kelly Ortbeg plans to seek FAA approval to gradually raise 737 MAX production rates. Restrictions remain in place after a January 2024 incident, and Boeing emphasizes a slow, quality-focused increase.
