Iran Women’s National Football Team Arrives in Istanbul

The players of the Iran Women’s National Football Team, who were stranded in Australia due to the suspension of flights following their Asian Cup match against South Korea, have arrived in Istanbul en route to their home country. It is reported that the squad will depart for Iran tomorrow.

Following the match between South Korea and Iran on March 2 at the 2026 Asian Cup hosted by Australia, several players made headlines for not singing the Iranian National Anthem. In the aftermath of the war between Iran and the USA, some of the Iranian national team players who remained in Australia applied for asylum, while others expressed their desire to return home. Consequently, the women’s football team first traveled from Australia to Malaysia. After waiting there for a period, the players arrived in Oman yesterday evening to make their way to Turkey. Today, the squad arrived in Istanbul on a flight from Oman.

The Iran Women’s National Football Team players left the airport under police escort and headed to the hotel where they will be staying in Istanbul. It has been learned that the team will leave for Iran tomorrow.
