On December 23, 2024, a Swiss Airlines Airbus A220-300 registered HB-JCD, operating flight #LX3592 from Bucharest to Zurich, made an emergency landing at Graz Airport after smoke was detected in both the cockpit and cabin. A 23-year-old cabin crew member affected by the incident was hospitalized after landing but passed away seven days later.
The investigation revealed damage to the aircraft’s left Pratt & Whitney PW1500G engine, specifically in the accessory gearbox and bearings. The engine has been sent to the United States for further analysis. The aircraft’s oxygen systems are also undergoing detailed examination.
