👉🏻The Indian government has approved the procurement of 97 Tejas Mk1A fighter jets for the Indian Air Force. Valued at $7.4 billion, the deal raises the total order to 180 aircraft, which will gradually replace the aging MiG-21 fleet.
👉🏻Developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), the Tejas program is considered a key part of India’s drive for self-reliance in defense. Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently underscored his support by taking a sortie in a Tejas jet.
👉🏻First inducted in 2016, the Tejas currently serves in two squadrons. With the new order, it is expected to become the Indian Air Force’s largest fighter fleet and ensure a steady production line for HAL over the next decade.
