Incident at Miami Airport: Couple Arrested for Attempting to Board Plane by Force

A Brazilian woman, Beatriz Rapoport De Campos Maia, who was arrested following an incident on American Airlines Flight #AA2494 from Miami to Cancún at Miami International Airport, has denied the accusations.

The incident occurred on Sunday, March 2. According to a statement from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, Campos Maia and her fiancé, Rafael Seirafe-Novaes, attempted to force their way onto the plane after missing their flight. During the altercation, the couple allegedly threw coffee at an airport employee.

Speaking to CBS News Miami on Tuesday, March 4, Campos Maia denied the claims, stating, “Nobody threw coffee. The coffee spilled.” Her fiancé, Seirafe-Novaes, also rejected the allegations, saying, “I’m not crazy. I take coffee to drink, not to throw.”

As a result of the incident, the couple was arrested on charges of ignoring security warnings, two counts of battery, and trespassing. Seirafe-Novaes also faces an additional charge of resisting arrest.
