Former Flight Attendant: “We Found a Passenger’s Lifeless Body in the Lavatory”

• Former cabin crew member Alanna Pow has shared some of the difficult and striking experiences she faced during her career in the skies. Pow, who joined the cabin crew at the age of 19 and served until 2023, noted that deaths on board occur more frequently than most people assume.

• Recalling an incident on a Melbourne–Cairns flight, Pow said: “A passenger didn’t come out of the lavatory for a long time. When we opened the door, he collapsed right in front of us. We tried to use a defibrillator, but it was too late. The passenger’s lifeless body remained in the cabin until landing.”

• Intense Workload and Party CulturePow explained that life as cabin crew wasn’t only about handling emergencies but also came with a strong party culture. During layovers, she and her colleagues often spent their time in a holiday-like atmosphere, with alcohol consumption and casual relationships being common. She also mentioned that some pilots were given warnings about their private lives.
