India-based IndiGo has slipped into an operational crisis due to a shortage of pilots, with more than 150 flights canceled and numerous delays reported on Wednesday.
It is stated that new regulations, which came into effect in November and increased rest periods for flight crews, have made the company’s rostering process more complex. IndiGo, however, claims that the disruptions have also been triggered by adverse weather conditions and heavy air traffic.
Normally known for its strong on-time performance and dominating a large share of India’s domestic market with more than 2,000 daily flights, the airline’s punctuality rate has plunged to 35% amid the crisis.
