Financial Times: Istanbul Airport Among the Three Leading Global Aviation Hubs

In a comprehensive analysis, Financial Times, one of the world’s leading economic publications, has named Istanbul Airport as one of the rising top three global aviation hubs, alongside Dubai and Riyadh. The analysis highlights that Istanbul’s scale represents a capacity increase equivalent to that of Heathrow, emphasizing that it is one of the strongest players in global aviation competition.

The report points out that Istanbul’s strategic location, rapidly expanding network of connections, and approach to human resource management have been key factors in its rise. Currently, the airport has a 90 million passenger capacity, and plans for expansion aim to increase this to 200 million passengers with six runways.

In his comments, IGA CEO Selahattin Bilgen reminded that Istanbul is located at the center of the Africa-Asia-Europe triangle, saying: “This geographic position makes us a natural global hub. The more countries you connect to, the more attractive you become; as airlines from different countries come, your network grows even more. Istanbul is right at the center of this cycle.”
