FAA Issues Warning on Boeing 787

FAA Issues Warning on Boeing 787 – Cockpit May Cut Communication with ATC Without Notice

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has proposed a new directive due to a critical fault found in the communication system of Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. In a request submitted last month, the FAA reported that the aircraft’s very high frequency (VHF) radio systems could switch between active and standby frequencies without any pilot input. This malfunction could result in a loss of communication between the flight crew and air traffic control.

While the FAA recommended that Boeing address the issue through a software update, the proposed directive has reignited public concerns over flight safety. Qatar Airways stated that it has implemented the FAA-recommended update across its 787 fleet but noted that the malfunction persists. The airline has reported the issue to both Boeing and the system manufacturer, Collins Aerospace, adding that the “unsafe condition still exists.”
