Emirates Continues to Acquire A380 Aircraft

Emirates is continuing to purchase Airbus A380s that were previously operated under lease agreements.
According to information from Amedeo via Centre-for-Aviation, the airline has officially acquired two A380-861s. These deliveries mark the first step in a broader agreement, with the remaining aircraft expected to be purchased by the end of 2025. The transfer of ownership will take place in the fourth quarter of 2025, coinciding with the expiration of their lease terms.
This follows a similar process in late 2024, when Emirates added five A380s to its fleet after their lease periods ended.
For the airline, the main advantages of such acquisitions include the ability to carry out all operations without requiring approval from a lessor, as well as significant cost benefits. Buying leased aircraft, especially the discontinued A380 type, is considerably more economical than acquiring new ones directly from the manufacturer.
Emirates plans to operate the A380 well into the 2040s. Owning the entire fleet provides strategic benefits for long-term operational planning and the sustainability of maintenance activities.
