EL AL Flight Departs Without “Free Palestine” Labeled Luggage
An EL AL flight operating as LY6 from Los Angeles to Tel Aviv experienced a significant delay after “Free Palestine” stickers were identified on multiple checked bags. The Boeing 787 was preparing for departure when the politically themed labels were discovered, prompting the activation of additional security procedures.
According to passenger accounts, the flight was initially delayed by approximately 25 minutes due to what was described as a “baggage-related technical issue.” The captain later clarified that each tagged suitcase required individual explosive screening. As security checks took longer than anticipated, the airline decided to depart without the affected luggage in order to avoid further delay.
Approximately 140 pieces of baggage were offloaded from the aircraft. Reports indicate that cabin crew faced complaints from some passengers during the delay, while emphasizing that security considerations take priority over baggage handling.
The aircraft ultimately departed with roughly a two-hour delay and arrived in Tel Aviv about one hour behind schedule. Passengers were informed that their luggage would be delivered on a subsequent flight.
