EgyptAir Plans U.S. Network Expansion with New Routes to Chicago and Los Angeles

CAIRO — EgyptAir has formally applied to launch two new transatlantic routes from its hub in Cairo to major U.S. cities, marking a significant step in the carrier’s international growth strategy.

According to filings, EgyptAir intends to commence service on the following routes:

  • Cairo (CAI) – Los Angeles (LAX) starting May 2026
  • Cairo (CAI) – Chicago O’Hare (ORD) starting June 2026

These proposed routes would expand the airline’s existing U.S. network, which currently includes nonstop flights between Cairo and New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). The additions of Los Angeles and Chicago would bring EgyptAir’s U.S. destinations to three, enhancing connectivity between North Africa and the United States.

EgyptAir is a member of the Star Alliance and operates a growing fleet of wide-body aircraft, including Boeing 787 Dreamliners, which are expected to be deployed on long-haul services. The airline has been steadily reinforcing its position as a key Middle Eastern and African carrier through strategic network expansion and upgraded in-flight services.

The proposed routes are subject to regulatory approval from the relevant civil aviation authorities in both Egypt and the United States.

Further details regarding frequencies, aircraft types, and ticket sales are expected to be announced as the launch dates approach.
