European low-cost carrier easyJet has highlighted the impact of developments in the Middle East on the aviation sector, warning that airfares could rise toward the end of the summer season.
The company’s management emphasized that volatility in fuel costs will be a key factor influencing prices. While existing fuel hedging agreements will continue to provide some protection for a limited period, costs may later be reflected more directly in ticket prices.
Meanwhile, a regional shift in passenger demand is being observed. Interest in Eastern Mediterranean destinations is declining, while demand for Western European routes is increasing. This shift is expected to influence airlines’ capacity planning and flight frequencies.
Given the significant share of fuel expenses in overall aviation costs, developments in energy markets are likely to have a more pronounced impact on ticket prices in the coming period.
