EasyJet Pilot Seen “Naked and Drunk” Allegedly Removed from Duty

EasyJet announced that a captain pilot was immediately suspended and an investigation launched following allegations that he was seen drunk and naked at a holiday resort. The airline emphasized that passenger and crew safety is its top priority.

According to reports in the British press, the incident occurred about 36 hours before one of the airline’s flights between London Gatwick Airport and Cape Verde. The captain reportedly checked into the five-star Melia Dunas Beach Resort and Spa in Cape Verde on August 4th, and the drinking session that started at a bar continued until the early hours of the morning.

According to The Sun newspaper, around 2:30 a.m. the pilot removed all his clothes and wandered around the hotel’s reception area, then moved on to the gym and spa section.

The pilot, who was scheduled to fly back to Gatwick on the afternoon of August 6th, was replaced by another captain. EasyJet stated that the pilot was immediately removed from duty according to their procedures and that the investigation is ongoing.

Cape Verde flights are among EasyJet’s longest routes from the UK. Flights from Gatwick to Cape Verde cover approximately 2,300 nautical miles and take around six hours on average.
