Eastern Airways Ceases Operations After 28 Years

UK-based regional airline Eastern Airways has suspended all flights and entered administration proceedings. On October 27, 2025, the company filed a “notice of intention to appoint administrators” under UK law, granting it short-term legal protection from creditors. The UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) announced that all flights had been cancelled and advised passengers not to travel to airports.

Headquartered at Humberside Airport, Eastern Airways operated routes to Aberdeen, Wick, Teesside, Humberside, London Gatwick, and Newquay. The airline had been struggling financially for some time due to rising operating costs and declining domestic travel demand. British media reported that prior to filing for administration, the airline halted ticket sales and returned most of its fleet to leasing companies.

According to financial data, Eastern Airways carried around 1.3 million passengers annually but reported a £19.7 million loss in the 2024 fiscal year, with total debt reaching £26 million. Without new investment or financing, the company is expected to file for bankruptcy.
