Delta to Pay $79 Million in 2020 Fuel Dump Lawsuit

👉🏻Delta Air Lines has reached a $79 million settlement in a class-action lawsuit over a 2020 incident in which about 15,000 pounds of fuel were released over residential areas in Los Angeles after a Shanghai-bound flight experienced an engine issue.

👉🏻The aircraft landed safely at LAX, but hundreds of properties and residents were affected. Plaintiffs argued the fuel dump was unnecessary, while the FAA later confirmed the pilots followed proper procedures.

👉🏻Under the settlement, Delta will compensate owners of around 38,000 properties, with total payments of $79 million. The net payout is expected to be about $50 million, averaging $1,300 per property. The airline will also assist with residue testing and provide certificates confirming properties are clear of contamination.
