Delta Air Lines Orders 31 Widebody Aircraft from Airbus

Delta Air Lines has placed a firm order with Airbus for 31 next-generation aircraft as part of its widebody fleet strategy. The order includes 16 A330-900s and 15 A350-900s. Upon completion of deliveries, Delta’s fleet will comprise 55 A330neo and 79 A350 aircraft.

With this investment, Delta aims to expand its international network, increase capacity on long-haul routes, and further enhance its premium product offering. The airline emphasizes that the new order further strengthens its long-standing partnership with Airbus.

Powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, the A330neo offers a range of up to 8,100 nautical miles and delivers up to a 25 percent reduction in fuel burn, CO₂ emissions, and operating costs compared to previous-generation competitor aircraft. The A350, with a range of up to 9,700 nautical miles, stands out as a highly efficient long-haul platform thanks to its advanced aerodynamics and extensive use of lightweight materials, offering improved efficiency and passenger comfort.

Both aircraft types feature Airbus’ Airspace cabin concept, providing a more modern and comfortable in-flight experience. The A330neo and A350 are capable of operating with up to 50 percent Sustainable Aviation Fuel, while Airbus targets making all its aircraft 100 percent SAF-compatible by 2030.

Delta Air Lines currently operates more than 500 Airbus aircraft, ranging from the A220 to the A350-900. The airline’s existing Airbus order backlog includes approximately 200 aircraft, among them the A350-1000 model.
