A mistake by a Delta Air Lines flight attendant in the United States cost the airline approximately $70,000 (around 5.5 million TL). The incident occurred before a scheduled flight from Pittsburgh to Salt Lake City.
According to a report by Izvestia, citing Rolling Out, the experienced flight attendant accidentally triggered the aircraft’s emergency evacuation slide just after locking the front left door. By mistakenly lifting the door handle, the emergency deployment mechanism was activated, causing the evacuation slide to inflate within seconds.
The inflated slide completely blocked the aircraft door, which was connected to the terminal, temporarily preventing passengers from disembarking. Passengers had to remain onboard until engineering teams deflated and removed the slide.
As a result, the replacement and inspection of the slide system cost Delta Air Lines roughly $70,000. The airline has since launched a safety investigation into the incident.
