Delta Air Lines has achieved a milestone at Portland International Airport (PDX) by receiving a commercial-scale delivery of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). In partnership with Shell, more than 400,000 gallons of waste-based SAF were blended with conventional jet fuel and integrated into the airport’s fuel system.
Delta officials stated that the collaboration will help expand the use of sustainable aviation fuel, while Port of Portland executives emphasized that SAF will improve local air quality and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The airline also noted that this initiative will not be a one-time effort, aiming instead to establish a permanent SAF supply structure in Portland.
