
In Louisville, Kentucky, a UPS Airlines MD-11 cargo aircraft crashed during takeoff, killing nine people, including three crew members, according to authorities. The aircraft, which was scheduled to operate a Louisville–Honolulu flight, struck a UPS facility near the end of the runway for reasons that remain under investigation.
Emergency crews continue search and rescue operations, with reports indicating that several individuals remain unaccounted for as recovery efforts proceed at the crash site.
In an official statement, UPS expressed deep sorrow, saying:
“Our hearts are with everyone affected by this tragic event.”
The company emphasized that Louisville serves as the central hub for its air operations and described the incident as a deeply saddening moment for the UPS family.
UPS confirmed that it is working closely with the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to determine the cause of the crash.
Following the accident, package sorting operations at UPS’s Worldport facility in Louisville were temporarily suspended.
