China Preparing to Order 500 Boeing 737 MAX Aircraft

A new aircraft deal between China and Boeing is reportedly under discussion and could become one of the largest agreements in aviation history. Chinese airlines are expected to place an order for 500 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, with the announcement potentially taking place during a state visit scheduled in Beijing between March 31 and April 2, 2026, attended by Donald Trump and Xi Jinping.

Negotiations are also reportedly ongoing for a separate package of around 100 wide-body aircraft, including the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and the Boeing 777X.

In the past, Chinese airlines accounted for around 25% of Boeing’s total order backlog, but today their share has dropped to about 2%, with 133 firm orders. China’s last major Boeing order was a 300-aircraft deal placed in 2017.
