German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced during his visit to Beijing that China is planning to order up to 120 commercial aircraft from Airbus.
Merz described the potential deal as a significant step in strengthening Europe–China economic ties, noting that technical and commercial discussions are still ongoing. No official details have been released regarding aircraft types or delivery timelines.
➡️ Industry sources suggest the order could include narrowbody A320neo family aircraft as well as widebody A350 jets. Chinese airlines have been accelerating fleet renewal programs in recent years, expanding domestic capacity while also strengthening long-haul operations.
If finalized, the potential 120-aircraft order would represent a notable boost for Airbus’ production pipeline and global backlog, further reinforcing the European manufacturer’s position in the Asian market.
