In response to the United States imposing a 145% tariff on Chinese products, China has instructed its airlines to halt new deliveries of Boeing aircraft. Additionally, the purchase of aircraft parts and equipment from the U.S. has been suspended.
This decision affects a total of 179 aircraft deliveries planned between 2025 and 2027 by Air China, China Eastern, and China Southern. The delivery ban poses a significant challenge to Boeing’s market presence in China, while potentially boosting interest in Airbus and China’s own COMAC aircraft.
The move is seen as a direct reflection of the ongoing trade war between the two countries and its impact on the aviation sector.
Furthermore, suspending the import of spare parts and equipment from the U.S. could increase maintenance costs for Boeing aircraft already operating in China. Experts warn that escalating tariffs on both sides risk bringing trade between the world’s two largest economies to a standstill.
