Cabin Odor Crisis After Passenger Releases Gas on a US Flight

A domestic flight in the United States lasting approximately five hours became uncomfortable for passengers due to a strong odor in the cabin caused by a passenger who repeatedly released gas throughout the flight.

According to reports, the cabin crew distributed masks and used air freshener in an effort to reduce the smell. However, the odor continued to be noticeable at intervals.

➡️ In modern passenger aircraft, cabin air is supplied through a mix of fresh air taken from outside and recirculated cabin air, which is passed through HEPA filters and renewed approximately every two to three minutes. While these filters are effective at capturing particles, they cannot filter out odors in gas form. When the source persists, the smell can continue to be noticeable in the cabin despite ventilation.
