British Airways Jet Returns to Sydney After “MAYDAY” Call

British Airways Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner was forced to return to Sydney during its flight to Singapore after a fuel smell was detected in the cockpit. The flight crew immediately issued a “mayday” call and carried out a safe landing at Sydney Airport.

The crew donned oxygen masks and completed the landing without incident. Passengers were informed that the diversion was due to the fuel smell in the cockpit.

The onward sector of the flight to London via Singapore was canceled, but the same service was operated the following day with another Boeing 787-9 aircraft.
