Following a 90-day suspension of customs tariffs between the U.S. and China, Boeing has resumed deliveries of its 737 MAX aircraft to Chinese carriers. A 737 MAX painted in Xiamen Airlines livery departed from Seattle and flew via Hawaii and Guam before landing at Boeing’s delivery center in Zhoushan, China. The same aircraft had been previously flown to Zhoushan in March but was returned to the U.S. in April.
China accounts for approximately 10% of Boeing’s commercial aircraft orders, making deliveries to the country strategically significant. Boeing has announced plans to deliver 50 aircraft to Chinese airlines by the end of this year.
While Boeing, Xiamen Airlines, and China’s Civil Aviation Authority have not commented, trade representatives from both countries are expected to meet in London for further discussions.
