Boeing is expected to soon receive approval from the European Union for its $4.7 billion acquisition of aircraft parts manufacturer Spirit AeroSystems. According to Reuters, the European Commission is set to announce its decision by October 14, with approval likely to be conditional on Boeing divesting certain Spirit facilities.
The company aims to regain control over its supply chain and reduce production disruptions by reintegrating Spirit, which it spun off in 2005. Boeing also plans to transfer Spirit’s Airbus-related production lines to ease competition concerns.
The UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) had already approved the deal unconditionally in August. The EU’s decision is seen as the final major regulatory step in the merger process, while the U.S. review is also expected to conclude soon.
