A person reported to have attempted to steal a training aircraft belonging to a flight school at Van Nuys Airport in California, USA, was stopped after crashing the aircraft into a hangar.
According to a statement by the Los Angeles Airport Police, 37-year-old Ceffareno Michael Logan unlawfully entered the L.A. Flying Academy facilities on Balboa Boulevard at around 5:00 a.m. on Thursday. Logan reportedly gained access to a single-engine Cessna 172 used for student pilot training, started the engine, and attempted to flee across the airport grounds.
Authorities stated that the aircraft failed to take off and instead collided directly with the outer wall of a hangar, causing damage to the aircraft’s nose section and wing. No clear information was released regarding whether there were any injuries.
The suspect was taken to the Van Nuys Jail at around 10:30 a.m. and arrested on suspicion of attempted grand theft. Official records indicate that Logan’s bail was set at 150,000 US dollars.
