As of April 1, 2025, all Air India employees, including top executives, are required to travel in Economy Class. The decision was made due to the frequent use of Business and Premium Economy seats by company executives, which limited availability for paying passengers and contributed to financial losses.
According to the new policy, it took effect on April 1 for vice presidents and above, while it will be implemented for all other employees starting June 1. However, seats in premium cabins that remain unoccupied 50 minutes before departure may be offered to staff.
The move is seen as a bold step toward improving customer satisfaction in the airline industry. Air India’s initiative could set an example for other carriers to follow.
