As Airbus prepares for a new model in the narrowbody market, it has put an extended A220 variant, referred to as the A220-500, on the agenda in talks with airlines and leasing companies.
Planned to reach a capacity of around 180 seats, the A220-500 is intended to respond to growing passenger demand and the need for higher capacity in single-aisle aircraft. The new model is expected to be positioned between the existing A220-300 and the A320neo family.
While 2026 stands out on the timeline for the official launch of the aircraft, the Farnborough International Airshow in the UK this July is seen as the strongest candidate for the A220-500 to be announced to the public for the first time.
