Airbus Sets Development Goals for the A220

Airbus has announced a comprehensive innovation package for its A220 series aircraft. Aiming to boost its competitiveness in the narrow-body aircraft market with 100 to 150 seats, the company is making significant technical and digital upgrades to the A220.

Later this year, the A220’s maximum takeoff weight will be increased once again. This enhancement will extend the aircraft’s range, enabling it to fly longer distances. In 2026, a new safety system called ROAAS will be introduced. Designed to detect the risk of runway excursions in advance, it will alert pilots in time, contributing significantly to operational safety.

Another passenger-friendly improvement is expected after 2028. Airbus plans to integrate its high-speed internet system, HBCplus, into the A220, significantly enhancing in-flight connectivity. Additionally, the company aims to ensure that all its aircraft are fully compatible with 100% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) by 2030.
