India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has launched an investigation after it was discovered that an Air India Airbus A320 operated at least eight flights last month with an expired Airworthiness Certificate. Once the violation was identified, the aircraft was immediately grounded.
Air India called the incident regrettable, stating that the responsible personnel have been removed from duty pending a full internal investigation. The airline emphasized that any deviation from safety procedures is unacceptable. Aviation authorities described flying with an invalid certificate as a serious regulatory breach.
Additionally, Air India announced that interim compensation has been paid to most of the families of passengers and crew involved in flight AI171, which crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad earlier this year.
