Air China to Resume North Korea Flights Suspended During the Pandemic

Air China is preparing to resume flights between Beijing and Pyongyang that were suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Services on the route are expected to restart from March 30.

Air links between China and North Korea largely came to a halt after Pyongyang closed its borders during the pandemic. In recent months, however, cross-border connections have gradually begun to reopen. Within this framework, Air China is expected to operate weekly flights between Beijing and Pyongyang.

The move is seen as part of the broader normalization of transportation links between China and North Korea. Notably, cross-border passenger train services that were suspended during the pandemic have also recently resumed.

The Beijing–Pyongyang route is one of the few international air connections serving North Korea. The route is also periodically operated by the country’s national carrier, Air Koryo.
