Air Canada CEO Michael Rousseau to Retire

Air Canada announced that its President and CEO Michael Rousseau will step down by the end of the third quarter of 2026.

According to the company, Rousseau will continue in his role and as a board member until that time. Air Canada has initiated a comprehensive succession process, considering both internal leadership development and external candidates.

The board stated that, in addition to performance criteria, French language proficiency will also be taken into account when evaluating candidates. Rousseau is expected to support the transition process to ensure continuity.

Chairman Vagn Sørensen noted that Rousseau led the company through major challenges, including the 2007–2008 financial crisis and the COVID-19 period, and played a key role in initiatives such as the Aeroplan acquisition, strengthening pension finances, and advancing customer-focused transformation.
