Air Arabia Maroc Aircraft Experiences Dangerous Descent Over Catania

An Air Arabia Maroc Airbus A320 (CN-NML) encountered a serious incident shortly after takeoff, when the Ground Proximity Warning System (GPWS) issued a “PULL UP” alert. According to ANSV data, the aircraft—en route from Catania to Amman—lost altitude and came within just a few dozen meters of the sea surface before the crew intervened and regained safe altitude. The remainder of the flight continued without further issues.

There were only six crew members on board and no passengers. Weather conditions were favorable, with clear visibility. The exact cause of the incident has not yet been determined; possible factors include a takeoff configuration error, weight calculation mistake, or technical malfunction. ANSV classified the occurrence as “serious” and has launched an investigation.
