Deir ez-Zor Airport in Syria has welcomed its first scheduled flight operated by a foreign airline, with Kuwait-based Jazeera Airways launching services between Kuwait and Deir ez-Zor.
Jazeera Airways’ inaugural flight to Deir ez-Zor was welcomed with a water cannon salute, while a ceremony was held at the airport to mark the launch of the new route. The airline will operate two weekly flights between Kuwait and Deir ez-Zor.
With the launch, Deir ez-Zor has joined Damascus and Aleppo as Syrian airports served by foreign airlines. Syrian Airlines already operates flights from Deir ez-Zor to Damascus and Kuwait.
Efforts are also continuing to restore operations at other airports across the country. Work is ongoing at Qamishli Airport in northern Syria, while the Syrian Civil Aviation Authority announced that an agreement had been reached to take over Latakia Airport from Russia and operate the facility.
