Lufthansa Opens Hangar One Museum for Its 100th Anniversary

Lufthansa has opened a new aviation museum in Frankfurt, named Hangar One, as part of its 100th anniversary celebrations. The museum is located next to the Lufthansa Technik facility at Frankfurt Airport, close to the airline’s main hub.

The museum’s most prominent exhibits are two classic aircraft that played an important role in Lufthansa’s history. The first is a Junkers Ju 52, registered D-AQUI, which was used for sightseeing flights until 2019. The second is a Lockheed L-1649A Starliner, registered D-ALAN, which Lufthansa had planned to return to flying condition before cancelling the costly restoration project in 2018. The aircraft was later transported to Germany, reassembled and repainted in historic Lufthansa colours.

Hangar One is located around a 15-minute walk from Terminal 1 at Frankfurt Airport and is open to visitors on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. On other days, the aircraft can still be viewed through the hangar’s large panoramic windows.

With the new museum, Lufthansa aims to present its century-long aviation history and iconic aircraft to visitors.
