Qatar Airways to End Doha–Sofia Service After 15 Years

Qatar Airways is set to permanently discontinue flights between Doha and Sofia, ending more than 15 years of operations in Bulgaria.
The airline suspended the route earlier in 2026 amid widespread disruption to its network following the temporary closure of Qatari airspace. Although Doha–Sofia flights had initially remained available for later travel dates, the service has since been removed from the airline’s schedules through the end of the Northern winter 2026–27 season.
According to Bulgarian travel industry representatives, Qatar Airways is also preparing to close its Sofia office in September, with employees reportedly being laid off. The airline has not publicly disclosed the reason for withdrawing from the Bulgarian market.
Qatar Airways launched flights to Sofia in September 2011, initially operating four weekly services. The route provided Bulgaria with direct access to the airline’s Doha hub and onward connections across Asia, Africa and Australia.
The withdrawal will leave Bulgaria without a nonstop passenger connection to Qatar and reduce long-haul connectivity through Hamad International Airport.
