iGA Istanbul Airport Ranks as the World’s Eighth-Busiest Airport

Airports Council International World has released its 2026 World Airport Traffic Dataset, based on passenger traffic recorded in 2025.

According to the report, iGA Istanbul Airport handled 84.4 million passengers, ranking as the eighth-busiest airport in the world.

The dataset covers more than 2,800 airports worldwide. Global passenger traffic reached 9.8 billion in 2025, representing a 3.7 percent increase compared with the previous year.

Passenger traffic at iGA Istanbul Airport rose by 5.5 percent year-on-year. Although the airport moved from seventh to eighth place in the global ranking, its passenger volume was 61.8 percent higher than in 2019, when it ranked 28th worldwide.

iGA Istanbul Airport also ranked sixth globally for international passenger traffic with 66.6 million passengers. It placed 10th in aircraft movements with 549,309 take-offs and landings, and 18th in air cargo traffic with approximately 1.98 million tonnes.

Atlanta remained the world’s busiest airport with 106.3 million passengers, followed by Dubai and Tokyo Haneda.
