Lightning Strikes Airport Infrastructure in Venezuela Following Earthquake

Venezuela’s aviation infrastructure has been hit by two separate natural events within a short period.

After a powerful earthquake caused cracks on Runway 10R/28L at Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía, lightning struck Manuel Carlos Piar International Airport in Puerto Ordaz.

During a severe thunderstorm, the lightning strike hit Taxiway ECHO, breaking the pavement and causing surface damage. Authorities said the damage did not extend to the main runway, and flight operations at the airport have continued without interruption.
