Terror Attack on an Airport in Niger

Diori Hamani International Airport in Niamey, the capital of Niger, along with the military base located inside it, was targeted in an armed attack during the night. It was later reported that the attack was claimed by ISIS’s Sahel affiliate.

Footage showed that a Diamond DA42 surveillance aircraft, a Mi-171Sh helicopter, a Hürkuş-C light attack aircraft, and a Cessna-type aircraft were damaged or set on fire in the attack. While official sources did not release a detailed list of models, they confirmed that several military aircraft and equipment inside hangars were damaged.

According to information reported in the international press, some civilian passenger aircraft also came under fire during the attack, and parked planes sustained damage.

Authorities stated that the attack was carried out at night by armed groups on motorcycles, that many of the attackers were neutralized during the clashes, and that some soldiers were injured.
