Ethiopian Airlines Orders 9 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners

Africa’s leading carrier, Ethiopian Airlines, has officially confirmed its order for nine Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft. The deliveries are planned for between 2031 and 2033.

The new order follows the airline’s previously announced deal for 11 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft at the Dubai Airshow. With both agreements finalized in December 2025, Ethiopian Airlines has added a total of 20 fuel-efficient Boeing aircraft to its order book.

Currently operating Africa’s largest 787 Dreamliner fleet, Ethiopian Airlines uses its B787-8 and B787-9 aircraft from Addis Ababa to serve high-demand destinations in Europe, Asia, and North America, as well as key routes within the continent.

With this latest order, the airline’s confirmed Boeing 787-9 orders have reached 20 aircraft. Ethiopian Airlines also has firm orders, options, and purchase rights under the Boeing 737 MAX and Boeing 777X programs.
