Wizz Air Celebrates 500 Millionth Passenger at Rome Fiumicino

Wizz Air marked a major milestone in its global operations by celebrating the carriage of its 500 millionth passenger at Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport in the Italian capital. The event was held directly at the boarding gate, allowing passengers to take part in the occasion.
Speaking during the celebration, Wizz Air management emphasized that behind every statistic lies an individual passenger story. Reaching 500 million passengers was described not only as a numerical achievement but also as a reflection of the growing responsibility the airline carries. The choice of Rome Fiumicino as the venue was linked to the steady and long-term growth of Wizz Air’s operations in Italy.
The event was attended by Wizz Air CEO József Váradi, senior company executives, and the Rome Fiumicino–based team, with support from airport operator Aeroporti di Roma.

As part of the milestone, Wizz Air also announced the allocation of its 16th aircraft to the Rome Fiumicino base. Company representatives stated that this decision reflects strong confidence in Rome, the city, and the local market. With the additional aircraft, 16 new routes will be launched from Rome, expanding connectivity across Europe, the Mediterranean, and beyond. New destinations include Oslo, Tallinn, and Bratislava, as well as Malta, Rhodes, Chania, and Kefalonia, alongside services to Podgorica, Varna, Constanta, and Alexandria in Egypt.

During the same week, Wizz Air expanded its network to more than 1,000 routes worldwide. The airline was also ranked among the world’s top 10 safest low-cost carriers by AirlineRatings. Company officials underlined that such achievements are the result of disciplined daily operations, professional standards, and strong team coordination.

The Rome event was described as not an endpoint, but the beginning of a new phase for Wizz Air, with the airline aiming to continue its growth in the coming years through a passenger-focused approach and sustained operational stability.
