Allegiant Air to Acquire Sun Country Airlines for $1.5 Billion
U.S.-based ultra-low-cost carrier Allegiant Air announced that it has reached an agreement to acquire fellow low-cost airline Sun Country Airlines for approximately $1.5 billion. The transaction is expected to close in 2026, subject to approval by the U.S. Department of Justice.
The combined company will be headquartered in Las Vegas, Nevada. Both airlines stated that until the merger is completed, they will continue to operate independently. Passengers will be able to maintain their existing reservations and travel plans without any changes.
Following the merger, Allegiant and Sun Country are expected to offer a broader route network, improved access to popular leisure destinations, and potentially expanded international services. The companies also emphasized a focus on more nonstop flights, affordable fare options, and an enhanced loyalty program.
It was further noted that after the merger, Sun Country will continue to maintain a strong presence in its key markets, including Minneapolis–Saint Paul (MSP).
