Why Do Aircraft Fuselages Look Green in the Factory?

The green color seen on the fuselages of newly manufactured aircraft is not the final paint. This color comes from a special protective primer coating applied during the production and assembly process.

This primer protects the metal surface against corrosion while also helping the aircraft’s final paint adhere better to the surface. From production to the paint shop, the fuselage is protected against moisture and external factors thanks to this coating.

As the aircraft approaches delivery, it is taken to the paint shop, where the airline’s colors, logos, and markings are applied. Therefore, aircraft that appear green are simply covered with a protective primer, indicating that the painting process has not yet been completed.
