Azerbaijan Airlines Aircraft Veers Off Runway

An Airbus A320 aircraft (registration 4K-AZ84) operated by Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) on flight #J220 from St. Petersburg to Baku veered off the runway and came to a stop on the grass at St. Petersburg Pulkovo Airport.

The aircraft, operating flight J220 from St. Petersburg to Baku, reported a technical malfunction related to its landing gear shortly after takeoff and decided to return to the departure airport.

After holding for about three hours, the flight crew landed back at Pulkovo Airport, where the aircraft veered off the runway during landing and came to a stop.

In a statement, Azerbaijan Airlines said: “The captain of the Airbus A320 operating flight J2-020 on the St. Petersburg–Baku route decided to return to ensure maximum flight safety due to a technical issue with the landing gear.”

All 155 passengers on board were safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported.
