British Airways Sues Boston Logan Airport for $293,000 Over A380 Damage

British Airways (BA) has filed a lawsuit against Boston Logan International Airport and the ground handling contractor, alleging that on June 8, 2022, a malfunction of a mobile ground power unit (GPU) used on the ground caused severe electrical damage to an Airbus A380-800 aircraft. As a result, the return flight to London was canceled, and BA sought at least $293,000 in compensation to cover the costs of passenger and crew accommodation, re-transportation, and repairs to the damaged aircraft.
According to the claims, this amount includes repair costs, monetary losses, accommodation for passengers and crew, and alternative travel arrangements. BA filed the lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts in Boston. However, as of July 2025, the parties reached an out-of-court settlement. The terms of the agreement remain confidential, and no details regarding the compensation amount or other conditions have been disclosed.
