U.S.-based Breeze Airways has announced that it has purchased former EgyptAir aircraft solely to dismantle them for parts to support its A220 fleet. The airline aims to address its spare parts needs—particularly for the problematic Pratt & Whitney PW1500G engines—by acquiring and deregistering three ex-EgyptAir A220s.
Due to unplanned engine repairs and global spare parts shortages, A220s and A320neos have been grounded for months worldwide. As a result, other major U.S. airlines are also turning to aircraft teardowns to secure critical components.
