Search for MH370 Suspended

Search operations for the wreckage of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 have been suspended. Malaysian Transport Minister Anthony Loke stated, “The operation has been halted for now; they will resume later this year. Current seasonal conditions are not suitable.”

What Happened?

Last December, the Malaysian government reached a new agreement with U.S.-based marine exploration company Ocean Infinity to resume the search for the aircraft. The company had previously conducted an unsuccessful search in 2018, but this time aimed to scan a newly identified 5,800-square-kilometer area based on the latest expert data analysis. The new mission began on February 25.

Between 2014 and 2017, under Australia’s leadership, 46,300 square kilometers of the Indian Ocean were searched, but only a few pieces of debris from the aircraft were ever recovered.
