216 New Aircraft for Russian Airlines – Transition from Foreign to Russian Registry
By the end of 2024, a total of 345 aircraft were removed from foreign registries, with 216 of them acquired by Russian airlines. According to a report by the Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya), these aircraft are now officially registered in Russia.
Previously registered in countries such as Bermuda and Ireland, these aircraft faced restrictions on international flights due to their foreign registration. However, following purchases by Russian airlines and agreements with lessors, most of these aircraft have been transferred to the Russian registry.
In September 2023, Deputy Minister of Economic Development Ilya Torosov stated that Russian airlines had applied for around 100 billion rubles in funding for the purchase of imported aircraft. These acquisitions are expected to be completed within 2024.
Meanwhile, according to the Bermuda Civil Aviation Authority (BCAA), as of January 2025, approximately 300 Russian passenger aircraft will still remain registered under the Bermuda registry.
